From the 15th to the 22nd September 2019, AEGEE-Europe has led its seminar “Capitalizing Youth Empowerment” in the frame of the University of Youth and Development in Mollina, coordinated by the North-South Center of the Council of Europe.
The UYD celebrated its 20th edition last year and it confirms itself as an international hub where the participants have the opportunity to meet people from all around the world, youth workers and volunteers from several NGOs and youth organisations and decision-makers. The theme of this edition is the United Sustainable Development Goal 16, “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions”. The Joint thematic activities faced and talked about the annual topic with non-formal education.
According to the theme, the seminar has developed to allow the participants to improve their skills and knowledge in creating actions and finding solutions at a local, regional, national and European level. They also learnt how access to justice can be used as an inclusive growth element.
During the week in Mollina, the participants have worked on advocacy, project management, and drafted projects in the one-day Ideathon. They had an overview of the seminar topic and MEMS project, project cycle, planning a campaign, advocacy towards decision-makers and reaching partners and the public. Besides that, they have explored what lobbying and advocacy are, the future role of AEGEE-Europe at the centre of European processes of democratisation, as well as, the youth role in the invention, promotion and implementation of new democratic models and how to include the EU Youth Goals in a project.
